The Ye research group focuses on monitoring and predicting the fate of pathogens and disease-causing biomolecules in natural and engineered systems. We are particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms by which viruses and extracellular biomolecules persist in bulk liquid and at solids-liquid interface. The goal is to minimize health risks associated with urban water systems and sustainable agricultural practices. Current research topics include the prediction of acute viral diseases through wastewater-based epidemiology, the molecular-scale understanding of virus inactivation, and the interactions of antibiotic resistance genes with biosolids surfaces.
